Permeable Paving Base setup
We are happy to provide a no-obligation estimate for the installation of sub base and paving in most areas of New Zealand.
A suggested base set up for our permeable pavers to be laid in Non-Trafficable areas: (i.e. no cars driving on them), would be as follows:
- One layer of A14 geotech cloth
- Minimum of 100mm of compacted 7/13mm or WAPP12 drainage metal
- 2nd layer of A14 geotech cloth
- 25mm of No.2 sand or McCallums EQ3 as bedding layer
- Permeable pavers 400sq. x 50mm thick
- No compacting is necessary for 400mm pavers
A suggested base set up for our permeable pavers to be laid in Trafficable areas as follows:
- One layer of A19 geotech cloth
- minimum of 150mm of compacted 7/13mm or WAPP12 drainage metal
- 2nd layer of A19 geotech cloth
- 25mm of No.2 sand or McCallums EQ3 as bedding layer
- Permeable pavers 230 x 115 x 50mm
- Compact bricks lightly with 40-50kg compactor
- Add no.2 sand blinding over bricks (do not compact paving with sand on the surface)
- Sweep sand into voids between pavers & sweep off excess
- Lightly hose off when completed
Further Considerations:
Novacoil under drain should be installed where possible to base to pick up excess soakage
Perimeter of pavers to be locked in
Please note that this specification is subject to ground porosity and bearing strength.
Pavers can be cut using a fine-toothed continuous wet saw blade
Storage in Pavers and Base (l/m2):
Based on open graded base material, the following calculations are based on the standard base of 50mm paver, 25mm coarse sand plus 7/11 drainage metal as follows:
100mm drainage metal = 98 (l/m2)
150mm drainage metal = 131 (l/m2)
200mm drainage metal = 163 (l/m2)
Paving maintenance and General Care:
- Cover pavers with a tarpaulin prior to placing a load of topsoil, sand, bark etc on them to prevent clogging of pavers.
- Sweep or power blow off leaves etc should they accumulate over the pavers, to maintain the water flow rate.
- General power wash every six to twelve months if required to keep pavers clean. In most situations this probably won't be necessary.
- Pavers can be cleaned using vacuum extraction if necessary.
